An exploration years in the making

There’s something truly special about going on an adventure. The unknowns, the unseen, and all the “what ifs” keep us teetering on the edge of excitement.

Wade and I had always dreamed of a grand adventure together, so when I suggested we go remote, he didn’t even hesitate. Our destinations: the ghost town of Anyox and the semi-abandoned town of Kitsault.

These two incredible sites are a major departure from what I usually explore. While not “urbex” in the traditional sense, they are exceptionally remote—one is only accessible by floatplane or boat. Still, the essence of exploration remains at the heart of this journey.

Anyox and Kitsault share a fascinatingly similar history but exist in vastly different states of decay.

When I tell people about Anyox and its history, the question I hear most often perfectly captures its elusive nature: “Why haven’t I ever heard of this place?”

Back in the early 1900s, if you looked at a map of BC’s coast, three towns stood out — Vancouver, Prince Rupert, and Anyox.

So how did a thriving town of over 2,700 people disappear and become so completely forgotten? I’ll be sharing an adventure of a lifetime — a journey I took with fellow explorer and good friend Wade, led by our fearless guide, Rob Bryce.

Through this photographic journey, I’ll uncover Anyox’s remarkable story — and its tragic demise. I’ll highlight the moments and sites that fascinated me most, keeping the storytelling focused despite the incredible volume of photos captured.

Pack your gear — it’s time to head into Anyox.
