Iron Work Horses: The Trains
How did vast amounts of minerals and resources move around in Anyox? The answer is simple: trains. For its time, the town and mine site had an impressive array of locomotives dedicated to the hard work of hauling and transporting.
The roster included three 40-ton electric locomotives, a 30-ton six-wheel steamer, a handful of steam donkeys, and over fifty steel-bottom dump cars (some of which are seen derailed in the photos — their fate still a mystery).
It would have been incredible for Wade and I to witness the intricate trestles that once spanned over two miles of working line, but sadly, these engineering marvels have long since disappeared.
The abandoned steam locomotive captured in frame stands as a haunting yet beautiful reminder: everything is finite, and just like these iron workhorses, we too can sometimes find ourselves derailed in life.
